Nazim Ahmed is the Founder and CEO of Creative Layer - an end-to-end technology platform that allows creators, entrepreneurs and brands to easily sell personalized products online.
Naz has been working at the intersection of technology, personalization and commerce for over 15 years. He holds a degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Western Ontario and combined it with Software Engineering courses from the University of Ottawa. In 2005, while working for California-based biotech company, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Naz combined his love of genetics and art by co-launching DNA11 – a service that turns your DNA into personalized pieces of artwork. What was supposed to be a creative side project turned into a successful business, selling their products around the world, including in MoMA’s Design Stores.
Noticing the rise of mobile photography, in 2009 Naz then went on to co-found CanvasPop.com – a photo-to-art business, which grew to serve over 300,000 customers around the world. CanvasPop has become one of the leading photo-to-art businesses in the space and continues to grow and expand to this day.
In 2018 he went on to raise over $3M in capital from Celtic Ventures, BDC Ventures and notable angels such as Tobi Lutke, Richard L’abbe and Cody Fauser. The capital was used to build Creative Layer, by enhancing and spinning out the technology platform which powers CanvasPop’s backend operations.
